Traffic Violations
Have a speeding ticket in Los Angeles? Charged with reckless driving? Driving on a suspending license?
If you have been cited for traffic violation in any jurisdiction in Los Angeles County – including LA, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Inglewood, Long Beach, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Santa Clarita, Santa Monica, Torrance, San Fernando Valley, – be aware that a traffic ticket will add points to your driving record.
New driving laws took effect in California on January 2009 that every motorist should know.
New laws are going into effect that relate specifically to cell-phone use and text messaging by the driver of a vehicle. Some of the new laws are secondary enforcement laws that will not be enforced unless the driver is violating a primary law such as speeding, reckless driving or running a red light. All of these new laws provide exceptions for emergencies, reporting illegal activity and use by public safety officials.
According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, this new law applies to electronic wireless communication devices used to manually communicate with any person using text-based communication, including but not limited to, text messaging, instant messaging or electronic mail. Violation of this law is punishable by $20 for the first offense and $50 for each additional offense.
In addition, in 2009 there has been increased legislation in the DUI / Drunk Driving. Much of the new legislation revolves around the use of Ignition Interlock Devices, Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device or BAIID.

Any violation of California Vehicle Code will add more points on your driver’s license. More points can mean higher insurance rates, and when you have too many points, your license can be suspended or revoked. Even if it is your first traffic violation, DO NOT start collecting points. A Los Angeles county speeding ticket or red light violation could be just the beginning. Another time, you’ll be late for an appointment – and that’s another speeding ticket - and more points. This means higher car insurance rates. And then your driving privileges could be taken away.
Obtaining affordable car insurance in California after a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) conviction for example, can be extremely challenging. Many national car insurance companies will increase your rates or cancel your police altogether after a drunk driving conviction or an administrative DMV suspension.
